How to make my first DIY soy candle (with wooden wicks)?
We have simplified the process for you in 8 STEPS below. For a full manual with comprehensive instructions please download it from here.
-
Get ready. Empty out a work space and organize all kit items on the table. Have an old cloth/ paper power nearby to clean up any messy scene.
-
Sett up double boiler. Pour one bag of wax into the melting pot as an INNER POT. Pour water in a sauce pan or a pot as an OUTTER POT. Set them on a stove to boil. The water should have the amount enough to float the melting pot loaded with wax. Fix our thermometer in the INNER POT, and occasionally gentle stir the wax to speed up melting, which takes 5-10 minutes.
-
Reduce the heat. Once the water reaches a boil, reduce the heat to low-mid setting but make sure the INNER POT wax temperature maintains at 80 Celsius at all times (not to exceed 85 Celsius.) Wax is now completely melted.
-
Set up candle wicks. (IMPORTANT) Cut one wooden wick in half, and layer two halves of the wicks that you just cut into the wick clip for a set. Fix the wick set and one glue dot in the center of the candle tin.
-
Add color (optional). While melting pot is on the heat source at 80 Celsius, add the dye chip at the amount of your choice follow by a gentle stir. Adjust the color shade by adding a little more dye chip each time until the colored wax on the paper towel shows our desired shade.
-
Add fragrance oil (optional). While melting pot is on the heat source at 80 Celsius, pour a bottle (or less) of fragrance oil of our choice. A full bottle will give the strongest, lasting scent. Give it a 10-15 seconds gentle stir to blend the fluid well.
-
Pour. Find a good spot to store your candle. Carefully pour the liquid wax into the candle tin. Avoid: pouring directly over the wick; pouring too fast or from a high angle (will have bubbles); overfilling the tin. Leave 1/2 inch space above the surface. Save the leftover wax for the next step.
-
Finish up. Let the candle sit still for 24 hours before you cut the wick to 1/4 inch. In the first hour, if an uneven candle surface is found, we can repeat Step 3 to reheat leftover wax and pour a thin layer over the uneven surface area. Attach your warning sign and write your name in the custom tin label.
